SpaceX kicked off 2026 with the Starlink 6-88 mission, launching 29 V2 Mini satellites from Cape Canaveral's SLC-40 at 1:48 AM EST on January 4. This was the first Starlink deployment after a December 2025 in-orbit satellite anomaly. Brand-new booster B1101 made its maiden flight and landed on the drone ship "Just Read the Instructions" in the Atlantic northeast of the Bahamas about 8.5 minutes after liftoff, marking SpaceX's 555th successful booster landing. The booster's supersonic return produced a sonic boom that rattled windows across Brevard County in the early morning hours.
