Salt Lake City, UT — Suspected UTTR Detonation

A traffic spike was detected across the Salt Lake Valley on the afternoon of April 2, with spiking cells along the Wasatch Front. Hill Air Force Base had just announced the start of its 2026 large detonation season at the Utah Test and Training Range in the West Desert, roughly 80 miles west of Salt Lake City, with one or two weekly detonations planned through September to destroy obsolete DoD rocket motors. The timing and broad detection pattern match the propagation signature of prior UTTR detonations, which routinely produce audible booms and vibrations across northern Utah.
